How To Find The Right Orthodontist For Your Smile

Your smile is unique to you. There’s only one in the whole world just like it! If you’ve decided to pursue orthodontic treatment, your first step should be finding an experienced orthodontic specialist who will listen to your concerns, answer any questions you have, and leave you feeling fully confident in their care.

Not every orthodontist will be able to meet your specific needs, however, even if they come highly recommended. With so many providers to choose from, you may not be sure where to even begin looking for the right one for you. Not to worry—Wilson Orthodontics has got you covered! Let’s take a look at some of the important things you should keep in mind as you search for the best orthodontist for your special smile.

Training, education, and experience

Don’t be afraid to ask about an orthodontist’s credentials! As a dental specialist, any orthodontist worth their salt should have a solid understanding of the mechanics of moving the teeth safely and effectively. They’ll also know what an ideal bite should look like and how to accomplish that using orthodontic appliances and techniques.

This knowledge comes from the additional 2-3 years of specialty training they receive after dental school. During this time, an orthodontist will learn how to diagnose, prevent, and treat issues that arise with the teeth and jaws. For example, Dr. Wilson attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Science degree from T.A.M.U.S. Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, where he graduated second in his class.

Dr. Wilson continued his studies at T.A.M.U.S. Baylor College of Dentistry, earning a Master’s degree in Orthodontics and graduating at the top of his class. Baylor’s orthodontic program is one of the top orthodontic programs in the United States, with only five students from the entire country being selected for Dr. Wilson’s class! If that’s not impressive enough, Texas Monthly magazine recognized Dr. Wilson as a top orthodontist and also one of America’s Top Dentists in the orthodontist category.

Long story short: when you trust your smile to Wilson Orthodontics, you’re truly placing it in the best hands.

Available treatment options

In the same way that no orthodontist can meet the needs of every patient, there is no single orthodontic treatment that will work for every patient’s smile. That’s why it’s important to pick a practice that offers patients a variety of treatment options! We’re  proud to provide patients of all ages with the following treatments for a total smile makeover.

Metal Braces

Today’s metal braces are nothing like they used to be! The brackets are much smaller and no longer wrap around the entire tooth. Thinner archwires are used to move the teeth with more comfort and speed. You can even add a pop of personality into your treatment journey by choosing fun colors for your elastic bands! Metal braces are usually the most economical treatment option and are ideal for patients who have more serious or complex cases.

Clear Braces

Clear braces are the same shape and size as metal braces but use clear or tooth-colored brackets to blend in better with your natural smile. When paired with clear, white, or tooth-colored elastics, they provide a very subtle way to straighten your teeth! While the ceramic brackets are durable, they are more prone to breakage than metal brackets. They also tend to be a bit more costly than metal braces. For this reason, we usually only recommend them for our teen and adult patients.

Invisalign clear aligner system

Instead of brackets and wires, Invisalign uses a series of clear removable aligners to move the teeth. These are made from a special thermoplastic resin and customized to fit over your teeth firmly but comfortably. Because they’re removable, they provide adult patients with a bit more freedom and flexibility than braces. There are no food restrictions, and maintaining a dental hygiene routine is a snap! When patients are fully compliant, Invisalign can often be just as effective as braces at treating many common orthodontic issues.

The cost of treatment

The total cost of treatment varies from case to case and is influenced by a number of different factors, including the severity of your case, how long your treatment is expected to last, and even where you live! At Wilson Orthodontics, we believe everyone should have access to exceptional orthodontic care that fits their budget. That’s why we offer our patients zero-interest and low-interest financing plans, along with a discount on accounts that are paid in full. We also accept most major credit cards and insurance plans.

Wilson Orthodontics could be a great fit for your smile

One of the best ways to “interview” an orthodontist is by scheduling a consultation with them. Here at Wilson Orthodontics, we offer these consultations at no charge! This visit includes a scan of your teeth, a discussion about your diagnosis, and an overview of the best treatment options for you. This initial appointment will also give you a chance to see how our office works, meet some of our team members, and get a good idea of how comfortable you will feel in our care.

This is something we take very seriously! Our goal is to make you feel welcome, valued, and relaxed from the moment you walk in our door. We take pride in providing our patients with a rewarding and stress-free orthodontic experience, from start to finish. If you’re in the Frisco area and would like to learn more about how Dr. Wilson can help you achieve the confident smile you deserve, get in touch! We’d love to schedule a FREE consultation for you and get you started on the road to improved oral health.
